March 11 (Reuters) – Amazon.com has determined to cease telling third-party sellers on its platform that they can not provide decrease costs on competing web sites, a supply stated on Monday.
The supply gave no particulars on the choice.
The choice comes within the wake of a letter from Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., arguing that the apply would “stifle market competitors and artificially inflate costs.” The Dec. 19 letter was despatched to Federal Commerce Fee Chairman Joseph Simons and Assistant Legal professional Normal Makan Delrahim.
Blumenthal stated Amazon had enforced its coverage prior to now by threatening to take away retailers who violated the contract clause. He argued the coverage raised antitrust issues and needs to be investigated by U.S. regulators.
Germany’s antitrust authority launched an investigation into whether or not Amazon is exploiting its market dominance in its relations with third-party retailers in November.
Germany is Amazon’s second-biggest market.
